The main novelty of the championship is the 4&#215;100 m mixed relay. To increase the visibility of the event, the hammer throw will take place outside the main stadium.  <\/li>\n<li>At the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, at the suggestion of the organizers of the competition, mixed team competitions (2 men and 2 women) in distances of 1 mile and 5 km were introduced. The winners will be determined by the amount of places occupied by the runners, but not by the times. The top three teams will be awarded medals, but no prize fund will be awarded. From the 2027 championship, the 1-mile run will not be held, only 5 km and half marathon runs will remain in the program.   <\/li>\n<li>At the World Indoor Championships, taking into account the previous decision not to use the first two tracks in the 400 m race, there will be two final runs of this distance, each of which will start with four athletes, and places will be determined based on the overall results of both runs.<\/li>\n<li>Age restrictions for participants in WA series competitions have been changed. Now athletes who are 16 years old during the year of the competition will be able to participate in all competitions. <\/li>\n<li>After the qualifying or semi-final competitions (both in the races and in the technical competitions), the two athletes with the best results who do not qualify for the next stage become reserves (marked with &#8220;s&#8221; in the start protocol). If there is a vacancy in the next stage of the competition (teams are obliged to notify about it promptly), the reserve athletes acquire the right to continue the competition (marked &#8220;QS&#8221;). <\/li>\n<li>In the 4&#215;100 m and 4&#215;400 m single-gender relays, only two runners will be allowed to change in the next stage.<\/li>\n<li>1015 female athletes, including reserve athletes, took the SRY test for eligibility for women&#8217;s competitions ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. Apart from them, this test will have to be taken by the participants of the main competitions of 2026 (World Championship, Diamond League, WA Series competition). The possibility for the participants of the World Youth Championship to take the test on site is being examined.  <\/li>\n<li>Under the current rules, an athlete is disqualified if he directly or indirectly pushes a barrier on another track, regardless of whether the impact on the other athlete was real. Now an athlete can be disqualified only if his actions have a significant effect &#8211; forcing him to change the rhythm, shorten or lengthen the stride, change direction or trip over a barrier. <\/li>\n<li>From 1 January 2026, the world records for the half marathon and marathon for sport walking will begin to be registered. The first records must be better than the following initial results: half marathon &#8211; 1:21:30 (men) and 1:30:30 (women); marathon &#8211; 2:56:30 (men) and 3:17:00 (women).   <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the decisions imposed at the last meeting of the World Athletics Council this year: The Council approved the program of the 2026 World Youth Championship.
