On Saturday, the Lithuanian Athletics Championships began in the new arena of Kaunas President Valdas Adamkus, where several hundred of the country’s best athletes compete. Already on the first day, there was no shortage of impressive starts \u2013 <\/em>Adas Dambrauskas, who was named the fastest person in the country, once again proved that he has no equal in Lithuania, and the young sprinter Ema Rup\u0161yt\u0117 not only improved her personal record, but also overtook a number of much more experienced runners. <\/strong><\/p>\n

A lot of potential for the future<\/strong><\/p>\n

As soon as he stepped to the starting line, sprinter A. Dambrauskas<\/strong> received a lot of ovations \u2013 the athletics fans gathered in the arena were probably expecting another Lithuanian record. Not only that, the 20-year-old runner has already spoiled with his impressive results. At the end of January, he completed the 60 m in 6.64 seconds at the competition held in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a (Poland). That’s just 0.02 seconds. slower than the current national record, which A. Dambrauskas shares with Kastytis Klimas. <\/p>\n

This time we managed to cover the distance in 6.68 seconds.<\/strong> Although the Lithuanian record was short, another (already the third in a row) title of the Lithuanian champion was won with confidence. The sprinter says he is happy about it. “I evaluate today’s start quite well, especially since I had an injury two or three weeks ago, so I am happy that I was able to come here and participate in general,” smiles A. Dambrauskas. He adds that he thinks the season could have been even more impressive. <\/p>\n

“The season itself had a lot of perspective, looking at training and camps, but I didn’t implement it, I didn’t show my real result. However, we pay the most attention to the 100 m in the summer, and the 60 m in the winter is just a stop for testing,” says the athlete. He still has hopes of qualifying for the World Indoor Championships<\/strong> in Toru\u0144, Poland, at the end of March, with final rankings to be revealed on March 11. <\/p>\n

Inspired by more experienced<\/strong><\/p>\n

E. Rup\u0161yt\u0117<\/strong>, who started in the similar women’s 60 m race, covered the distance in 7.33 seconds and<\/strong> not only improved her personal record, won the gold medal of the championship, but also entered her name in the ranking of the World Indoor Championships, although she was not in it before. Currently, the 20-year-old sprinter is 70th, and 56 of the fastest runners on the planet will travel to the championships. <\/p>\n

“I didn’t even expect such a result, I tried to run as best as possible, it wasn’t an important place. So I definitely give 10 points for the start,” E. Rup\u0161yt\u0117 does not mince words. She adds that she is happy with the company she can compete with. “I ran with very strong, experienced sprinters, I think it really contributed to a good result,” the sprinter concludes. She will try her hand at the 200 m run on Sunday. <\/p>\n

The first day of the championship was full of more resounding victories. In the women’s 400 m run, Modesta Just\u0117 Morauskait\u0117<\/strong> (53.30 seconds) set the Lithuanian championship record for the fourth time, while Lukas Sutkus<\/strong> (47.42 seconds) triumphed in the men’s competition, who also set the Lithuanian championship record and became the national champion for the fourth time. <\/p>\n

In the 5000 m athletic walking event, Aust\u0117ja Kavaliauskait\u0117<\/strong> (22 minutes 13.80 seconds) became the Lithuanian champion for the second year in a row, while Libertas Kulie\u0161a<\/strong> , who improved her personal record, triumphed in the men’s event.<\/p>\n

In the women’s high jump competition, Satera Bal\u010daityt\u0117<\/strong> triumphed with 1.75 m, and in the men’s event , Juozas Baik\u0161tys<\/strong> , who achieved the best result of the country’s season, became the Lithuanian champion (2.20 m).<\/p>\n

In the men’s 1500 m distance, the fastest was Simas Berta\u0161ius<\/strong>, who achieved the best result of the Lithuanian season and triumphed in this event for the eleventh time in a row (3 minutes 51.16 seconds). In the same women’s event, Auks\u0117 Linkut\u0117<\/strong> triumphed (4 min. 35.83 sec.), who became the Lithuanian champion for the third time in a row. <\/p>\n

In the men’s long jump competition, Marius Vadeikis<\/strong> became the champion for the third time, who overcame 7.50 m, and in the women’s competition Urt\u0117 K\u0161\u010denavi\u010di\u016bt\u0117<\/strong> (6.14 m) won. Simonas Bakanas<\/strong> triumphed in the shot put, who achieved the best result of the country season and won the title of champion for the fourth time in a row (17.68 m), while in the women’s ranks Ieva Gumbs<\/strong> (15.51 m) became the champion for the seventh time in a row. <\/p>\n

On the second day of the championship (March 1st) Among others, the cross-Atlantic runner Gabija Galvydyt\u0117<\/strong>, the triple jumper Diana Zagainova<\/strong> and Aina Grik\u0161ait\u0117<\/strong> will compete in the Kaunas Arena, S. Berta\u0161ius<\/strong> will seek another title of Lithuanian champion (and perhaps a national record), and the same is expected from pole vaulter Rugil\u0117 Mikly\u010di\u016bt\u0117<\/strong> and sprinter Lukrecija Sabaityt\u0117<\/strong>. The competition starts at 11:30 a.m. <\/p>\n
