A group of the country’s best sprinters, jumpers and multi-athletes camped for a week and a half in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. Athletes and their coaches preparing for the most important starts of the season not only drew sports knowledge from each other, but also spent their free time together, thus strengthening the team spirit. This will be needed when the country is represented in the summer <\/strong> European and World Championships.<\/strong> Among other things, it is expected to see Lithuanian relay teams.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From young track and field athletes to titled Olympians<\/strong><\/p>\n

Olympic runners Modesta Just\u0117 Morauskait\u0117<\/strong> and Gediminas Truskauskas<\/strong>, triple jumper Diana Zagainova<\/strong>, javelin thrower Edis Matusevi\u010dius<\/strong>, rising star of Lithuania, multiple pole vault record holder Rugil\u0117 Mikly\u010di\u016bt\u0117<\/strong>, sprint record holders Lukrecija Sabaityt\u0117<\/strong> and Ema Rup\u0161yt\u0117<\/strong> are just some of the country’s most capable track and field athletes, who competed on April 20-May 6. In Cyprus, he was intensively preparing for the summer season. <\/p>\n

According to the Secretary General of the Lithuanian Athletics Federation Nijol\u0117 Medvedeva<\/strong>, there has never been such a large training team in one place yet, and the benefits are obvious. “I have always had a dream that as many athletes as possible would train together, rather than in separate camps scattered in different places. After all, this way you can get inspiration and motivation from other athletes, and coaches join forces for common team goals,” the team manager who visited the campers in Cyprus shares her thoughts. Together with the head and curator of the Talent ID program Evaldas Kandratavi\u010dius<\/strong> , she conducted several seminars for young athletes, so there was no shortage of theoretical knowledge in the camp. <\/p>\n

N. Medvedeva also supports a large team of 10 students who brought to the camp and added two young and promising jumpers from Klaip\u0117da and Marijampol\u0117. coach Marius Vadeikis<\/strong>. “It’s nice that so many Lithuanians had the opportunity to play sports together. I am most happy for the young athletes, who were able to see the leaders of our national team in the working atmosphere up close. The conditions for sports are very good \u2013 as soon as you walk through the hotel door, you enter the stadium, you can train around the clock. The sun and warmth pampered me,” the titled jumper shares his impressions. <\/p>\n

All for one, one <\/strong> for all<\/strong><\/p>\n

M. Vadeikis, who is still improving his personal records in the long jump, also notes that the team spirit has also strengthened during the camp. “Teamwork was especially felt when there were tough speed endurance and endurance training. Calls and shouts of support could be heard from all corners of the stadium. This motivates you to do the work even better. The sprinters’ relay training, led by coach Martas Skrabulis, always ended with a common motto. I hope that the whole of Lithuania and Europe will hear it after the successful performance of the national team,” smiles M. Vadeikis. <\/p>\n

The same moments were remembered by the pole vaulter R. Mikly\u010di\u016bt\u0117. “It was the first time we went to the camp with such a large national team team, everyone supported each other. As we ran through the sections, the support could be heard even from the other end of the stadium, which motivated me a lot to squeeze the maximum out of ourselves. We didn’t even feel like we were in another country, there was no time to miss home,” says the multiple Lithuanian record holder. <\/p>\n

She adds that although almost all the days of the camp were intense, and often the athletes had two training sessions per day, they tried to use the remaining free time productively. Ice baths, massages and other recovery measures, walks around the town or further trips to the sea, board games, screenings of the most important battles of Zalgiris Kaunas in the Euroleague playoffs \u2013 all this has further united both the athletes who train together in Lithuania and those who usually meet only in competitions. <\/p>\n

Different international starts await the athletes who have returned home, and the biggest competition in Lithuania is on June 5-6. The LLAF Cup<\/strong> will take place in Palanga and the Lithuanian Championship<\/strong> will take place in Palanga on July 24-26. The main goal of the season is the European Athletics Championships<\/strong> to be held in Birmingham (UK) on August 10-16. So far, discus throwers Mykolas and Martynas Aleknos<\/strong>, runner Gabija Galvydyt\u0117<\/strong>, high jumper Juozas Baik\u0161tys<\/strong> and multi-athlete Beatri\u010d\u0117 Ju\u0161kevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117<\/strong> have fulfilled the norm of the championships. This summer, young track and field athletes will attend the European Junior (under 18 years old) Championships<\/strong> in Rietis (Italy) and the World Junior (under 20 years old) Championships<\/strong> in Oregon (USA). <\/p>\n
