It will take place next weekend in the renovated stadium of the resort. In the competition, we will see several hundred of the country&#8217;s most capable athletes, including discus thrower, world record holder Mykolas Alekna, runner Gabija Galvydyt\u0117 shining across the Atlantic, javelin thrower Edis Matusevi\u010dius, who is returning to the best form in his career. All of them have already secured a place in the European Championship in August, the others will try to do so in Palanga. July 26 is the last day of the selection.    <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Unbreakable talent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The incredible return of <strong>M. Alekna<\/strong> after a painful injury in recent months has become one of the main topics of athletics not only in Lithuania, but in the whole world. When the 23-year-old athlete tore his chest muscle during training in March, it was predicted that his return to the big sport would take place in half a year or even later. However, three months later, M. Alekna threw the discus as much as 70.60 m in the competition in Estonia, and soon triumphed in the &#8220;Diamond League&#8221; stage in Eugene (USA), flying the tool even further \u2013 71.06 m.  <\/p>\n<p>The athlete&#8217;s return will also be able to be seen by fans in his homeland this weekend. M. Alekna says that this start is always very welcome. &#8220;Since I can already play sports and I no longer feel the effects of the injury, I always want to start in Lithuania at least once a year. A lot of people gather in Palanga, I get a lot of support, and there are also conditions to record good results. For me, it will be a great test before the European Championship, but of course I also want to win, because there will definitely be <strong>competition,&#8221; says<\/strong> the world record holder. He will be challenged in Palanga by his brother Martynas, as well as the country&#8217;s titled discus player Andrius Gud\u017eius, so the audience will have the opportunity to see the highest level performances.     <\/p>\n<p><strong>The splendor of the &#8220;Diamond League&#8221; and the walls of the house<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There will be no shortage of action on the treadmills either. Perhaps the star of <strong>G. Galvydyt\u0117<\/strong> can shine brightest there. The runner, who lives and trains in Oregon (USA), has a really impressive season \u2013 she has competed in the Diamond League twice, improved Lithuanian records (1500 m and miles) twice, became the first Lithuanian woman in history to complete the 1500 m in less than 4 minutes, and won various commercial competitions.  <\/p>\n<p>When asked how she evaluates the season, the 26-year-old athlete does not hide her smile, but at the same time talks about the changes in training. &#8220;I rate my season really well. I am very happy that I managed to make my debut in the Diamond League, run fast there and improve several Lithuanian records. I very much hope that this new experience will open even more doors in the future. This year we are doing a slightly different preparation \u2013 we train more, we start less. This is a new thing for me, so I am very happy that I am able to show high results through intensive work. I probably haven&#8217;t worked so much in the middle of the season and participated in competitions together,&#8221; the multiple Lithuanian record holder and champion, participant of the Paris Olympic Games, shares the peculiarities of the season.      <\/p>\n<p>Since she is a rare guest in her homeland, she says she appreciates every start here even more. &#8220;I really like coming back to Palanga \u2013 it&#8217;s a really fun place to participate and be. It&#8217;s nice that my family comes there as well, and I get the support of other athletes and fans. It&#8217;s good to run among your own people. I am very much looking forward and very much hope that all the support and fun atmosphere will help me run quickly,&#8221; says G. Galvydyt\u0117. She will compete in the Lithuanian Championships in her beloved 800 and 400 m distances \u2013 the latter, as she says, she chose to experiment and test how fast she can run. However, the main focus is on the 800 m race.      <\/p>\n<p>After the Lithuanian championship, she and coach Justinas Ber\u017eanskis will stay in Palanga, where they will prepare  <strong>August 10-16 Birmingham   <\/strong>(UK) for <strong>the upcoming European Championship<\/strong>. The athlete has fulfilled the norms of 800 and 1500 m races. <\/p>\n<p><strong>A special place<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A place in the Old Continent championships was recently secured by javelin thrower <strong>E. Matusevi\u010dius<\/strong>. In the Cosma Cup competition held at the Palanga Stadium in mid-June, he flew 83.65 m and fulfilled the European Championship norm, which reaches exactly 83 m. By the way, also in Palanga, the 30-year-old track and field athlete achieved the Lithuanian record that still exists in 2019 \u2013 89.17 m. The athlete admits that returning to Palanga is always good.    <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really like competing in Palanga, because there is usually great weather and great support. Sometimes the wind blows, too&#8230;&#8221; \u2013 laughs E. Matusevi\u010dius. However, he adds that he does not set particularly high goals for the championship this time due to the intense schedule of the competition. &#8220;During the championship, it will be only a few days after the commercial competition, so I don&#8217;t know how I will be rested&#8230; The most important thing is to throw 80 meters,&#8221; the athlete summarizes his goals.    <\/p>\n<p>It is the Lithuanian javelin thrower who has been awarded the 80-meter mark that manages to cross the 80-meter mark in almost all competitions this season, which, according to him, is pleasing. &#8220;The season is really not bad. The shots are stable, the form is really good. However, I feel that I can throw even further, so I hope that the best shots will be in the European Championship. There I hope to make it to the final, and in the latter I will give everything I can, just like in the championships held in Rome in 2024 (ed. E. Matusevi\u010dius took 4th place that time),&#8221; the athlete shares his expectations.     <\/p>\n<p><em>Runners <strong>Gediminas Truskauskas, Modesta Just\u0117 Morauskait\u0117, Simas Berta\u0161ius,<\/strong> triple jumper <strong>Diana Zagainova, Dovil\u0117 Kilty, Aina Grik\u0161ait\u0117<\/strong>, pole vaulter <strong>Rugil\u0117 Mikly\u010di\u016bt\u0117<\/strong> and many other top track and field athletes of the country will also compete in Palanga. The competition will start on Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m., on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. On Saturday, among other things, there will be a <strong>Children&#8217;s 400 meter run<\/strong>, where all children under the age of 12 will be able to test their strength, and they will be supported by titled Lithuanian track and field athletes. Entrance to the Palanga Stadium is free.
