News from the USA: Gabija Galvydytė improved the Lithuanian record (updated)

On Friday, Gabija Galvydytė won the Thane Baker Invitational in Manhattan (Kansas) and improved the Lithuanian 1000 m short course record – 2 minutes 35.17 seconds. This is the best result of this winter season in the world and the 23rd in history.

The previous Lithuanian record (2:35.5) since 1988 belonged to Laimutė Baikauskaitė.


In Nashville (Tennessee), Beatričė Juškevičiūtė started in the pentathlon at the Vanderbilt Invitational: she did not finish the 60 m hurdles, was sixth in the high jump (1.61), was first in the shot put (13.86, the best result of the Lithuanian season), and did not compete in the last two events (long jump and 800 m run).


At the Owen Hewett Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma, Olivia Vaitaitytė won the high jump (1.60), and was seventh in the 60 m hurdles (8.94, 9.06 in the qualifiers).


Matas Mikulėnas, who started his studies in California, participated in his first competition across the Atlantic – the Spokane Sports Showcase. By pushing the ball in 16.30 m, he improved his personal record and took sixth place.
