In the European U23 Championship – P. Stuglytė’s shots were not counted

On Saturday, the third day of the European U23 Athletics Championships takes place in Bergen (Norway). A total of 18 athletes represent Lithuania in the championship, and today only Paulina Stuglytė competed. The athlete participated in the discus throw qualification and finished her performance in the championship.

33 discus throwers started in the competition, and 12 made it to the final. The result of the last athlete to enter was 48.43 m. The Lithuanian made three attempts in the sector, but all of them were not counted.

“I didn’t manage the technique. The simulation shots were quite good. I was hoping to record the result with the last shot, which was quite good. I think that shot would have guaranteed me to get to the final. I have experience in such competitions, stress should not be a factor, but I can’t say why this happened. I was hoping to perform much better. This is the first such championship when I don’t have a result, so I feel very disappointed in myself. I really didn’t expect a medal, because I haven’t reached that level, but I had thoughts about getting to the final,” said P. Stuglytė.

The athlete competed in the European U20 Championship in 2021, the U20 World Championship in 2022, and the European U20 Championship in 2023. In the latter, the discus thrower performed best and took 11th place. P. Stuglytė set the personal record last year (51.04 m), and this year the discus flew the furthest with 47.81 m.

“This whole season has been worse. The results have dropped a bit, but lately I have felt good and the training has been normal. I was hoping to improve the season record today, maybe even close to dropping the personal record. I would like to know why this season is like this. I don’t have an answer to this question. I don’t know what has an impact, because we are working and preparing a lot with coach Vaclovas Kidykas ,” P. Stuglytė could not explain the results shown.

The European U23 Championship is broadcast live on the Eurovision Sport portal. On Sunday, the Lithuanians will start in the pole vault final and in the 10000 m sport walking and 4×100 m races.
