On Friday, Beatričė Juškevičiūtė made her debut at the World Athletics Championships. The multi-athlete has overcome the first four events of the heptathlon and after the first day has 3684 points and is in 16th position. All four matches were completed in just four hours, which is not very common.
In the 100 m hurdles race, the Lithuanian who set a season record (13.03 seconds) finished second. Soon there was a high jump competition, in which the athlete jumped 1.62 m and after two races ranked 19th. In the overall standings, the ball push competition allowed to jump, as B. Juškevičiūtė pushed the tool 14.17 m (14.17-14.09-13.86) and climbed to 15th place. At the end of the session, the start of the fastest 200 m run awaited. The distance in 23.80 seconds. The athlete finished fifth in this event, and finished the first day’s performance 16th.
“And nothing, and not really, but such a multi-fight competition. The start was good, the barrier run was fast, but sometimes when the barrier run is faster, it is more difficult to cope with the high jump. It was too fast an acceleration. The ball was half the devil, and the 200 m run, although faster, did not run fast. One day is over, but anything can still happen, so we will fight tomorrow,” B. Juškevičiūtė reviewed the performance in Tokyo.
Since the race had to start practically without breaks, the Lithuanian said that there was no need to warm up extra today: “Everything happened very quickly. It seems that there was no need to warm up a second time. You can’t even think about it, because there is not much room to breathe. However, tomorrow there will be a break [between matches].”
Although this is the debut of B. Juškevičiūtė’s planetary championships, the big stage does not scare her, because the multi-athlete, who made her debut at the European Championships last year, finished 13th, and this year her debut at the European Indoor Championships was even more successful, as she managed to take 8th place in the pentathlon event.
“Similar competitors participate in commercial competitions. Everyone wants to perform well at the World Championships, because it is the most important competition. You can feel the difference [from other championships], but the girls are the same. When everything was over in four hours, it seems that I am not overtired. There should be more energy left tomorrow,” said the athlete.
On Saturday, at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, B. Juškevičiūtė will host the long jump (05:35), javelin throw (13:00) and 800 m (15:11) events. After the first day, the American Anna Hall has the most points (4154), while the Lithuanian set a personal record in the heptathlon in April this year – 6295 points.
Lithuania is represented by 11 track and field athletes at the World Championships. The Planet Championships in the Far East take place on September 13-21, and the competition is broadcast live by LRT and the portal Eurovision Sport.
