Lithuanian silver at the Baltic States Championship

On Saturday, the Baltic States team championship took place in Riga. In it, the Lithuanian national team, which had been third in the last two championships, this time took second place. Our athletes triumphed in 13 events, set many personal records, and achieved the best Lithuanian seasonal results. For five track and field athletes, this was the last stop before the European Championships taking place in Birmingham (UK).

The Lithuanian team has 262 points, which is just 15.5 points less than the triumphant Latvian team. The Estonians finished third with 230.5 points. Out of 38 events, Lithuanians won 13 times, took silver 14 times, and bronze 12 times.

The victories were won by:

Ema Rupšytė – 100 m (11.82 sec);

Gabija Klimukaitė – 100 m hurdles (13.78 seconds);

Lukas Šermukšnis – 400 m hurdles (51.13 seconds);

Eglė Vaitulevičiūtė – 800 m (2 min 12.16 sec);

Simas Bertašius – 1500 m (3 min 49.09 sec);

Giedrius Valinčius – 3000 m (8 min 05.28 sec);

Ignas Bitinas – high jump (2.10 m);

Urtė Kščenavičiūtė – long jump (6.48 m/2.2);

Diana Zagainova – triple jump (13.48 m);

Simonas Bakanas – shot put (17.15 m);

Tomas Vasiliauskas – hammer throw (66.86 m);

Eglė Baranauskienė – discus throw (49.82 m);

4×100 m mixed relay – Gediminas Truskauskas, Lukrecija Sabaitytė, Adas Dambrauskas, Ema Rupšytė (41.63 sec).

Gold-adorned S. Bertašius, D. Zagainova, G. Truskauskas, L. Sabaitytė, and A. Dambrauskas will compete in the European Championship in Birmingham from August 10 to 16. In total, 19 track and field athletes will represent Lithuania there.
