On Friday, the Lithuanian javelin throw record holder Liveta Jasiūnaitė appeared at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. However, the start at the World Athletics Championships was not what the athlete expected, as she could not win a ticket to the final. In the javelin throw qualification, the Lithuanian threw 58.66 m (57.04-58.66-x) and took 20th place in the championship.
12 javelin throwers made it to the final, the result of the last participant to qualify was 60.98 m. In the qualification, the Serbian Adriana Vilagoš shot put (66.06 m) flew the furthest.
“It’s hard, it’s hard. There was a goal to get to the final, we didn’t succeed, so I appreciate that it could have been better. The first attempt was a bit distracting, because I came ready for the throw and my mark was removed, so I had to re-measure the acceleration. It was a little distracting, because it wasn’t the case that you came and threw right away. Later, technical errors followed, which did not allow us to make it to the final,” L. Jasiūnaitė reviewed her performance.
In 2017, the athlete took 26th place at the World Championships in London (Great Britain), in 2019 she qualified 23rd in Doha (Qatar), in 2022 she managed to take 10th place in Oregon, USA, and in 2023 the performance in Budapest (Hungary) was marked 14th place.
This year, the spear fired by L. Jasiūnaitė flew the farthest at 62.38 m. In the top division of the European Team Championship, the athlete won the third place, and in the Lithuanian championship she won a gold medal. The javelin thrower set a personal record, and at the same time the Lithuanian record, in 2019 (63.98 m).
“I don’t know, maybe there will be some thoughts in the future, but now I don’t think I will take anything very valuable [from the championship],” said L. Jasiūnaitė.
Lithuania is represented by 11 track and field athletes at the World Championships. The Planet Championships in the Far East take place on September 13-21, and the competition is broadcast live by LRT and the portal Eurovision Sport.
