
It is with deep sadness that we announce that on January 27 of this year, at the age of 89, the well-known Lithuanian track and field athlete Liudmila ZAIKINA BARAKŪNIENĖ died.
She was one of the most prominent runners of her generation: 7 times she became the Lithuanian champion (in 200 m, 400 m and relay races), 9 times she improved the Lithuanian 4oo m running record (from 59.5 seconds to 57.3 seconds), 6 times – the relay records. 1957–1961 Lyudmila was a member of the Lithuanian national athletics team.
We sincerely sympathize with the relatives of the deceased, all those who trained, competed or worked with her. It will remain in the memory of the athletics community forever.
The urn will be laid to rest on January 29 from 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home “Broken String” (Vilnius, Ąžuolyno St. 10). Departure on January 30 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral in Vilnius Sudervė Cemetery (Viršuliškės).
