
With deep sadness, we announce that Eugenijus BUROKAS, a track and field athlete, coach, and sports organizer, passed away at the age of 90.
Eugenijus Burokas was born on January 7, 1937, in Kaunas. After graduating from the Lithuanian Institute of Physical Culture in 1961, he worked until 1963 at the Pasvalys district Joniškėlis Secondary School, 1963–1974. Coach at the Kaunas Comprehensive Sports School, director of the Kaunas “Pluoštas” sports school from 1974 to 1976, coach at the Republican Children and Youth Sports School from 1976 to 1982, 1982–1989. Head of the Athletics Department of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee and coach of the USSR national team for Lithuania, 1990–1997. Lecturer at the Lithuanian Institute of Physical Culture, 1997–1998. Head of the Kaunas Sports Department, 1999–2001. Deputy director of the Olympic Sports Center. President of the Lithuanian Athletics Federation (1997–2000), general secretary (2001–2009). Notable trainees: Arūnas Vitkevičius, USSR student champion and youth record holder, prize-winner at the European Youth Championship; Rimvydas Aukštuolis, USSR youth and multiple Lithuanian champion.
Eugenijus Burokas was a Honored Coach of Lithuania (1973) and an honorary doctor of the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (2008). He was awarded the Medal of the Order for Merits to Lithuania , the Olympic Star of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee, and the Honorary Commander of Sports badge of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.

Everyone who knew the Deceased and feels the desire to say goodbye. relatives invite you to the “Nemunas” funeral hall (Juozapavičiaus Ave. 1, Kaunas) on October 5th from 4 p.m. On October 6th at 9 a.m., a mass will be held at A. Panemunė’s Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The farewell will take place on October 6th at 1 p.m., with the funeral at A. Panemunė Cemetery.
