The result that has been awaited for 43 years: Simas Bertašius rewrote history once again

On Saturday, athlete Simas Bertašius covered the 3000 m distance in 7 minutes 42.07 seconds in Watford (Great Britain) at the World Athletics Continental Tour British Milers Club Grand Prix, won the first place and improved the 43-year-old Lithuanian record. Harry Wakefield , who remained in second place, was overtaken by more than 5 seconds (7 minutes 47.20 seconds), while Jacob Cann , who took third place, was more than 10 seconds behind (7 minutes 52.36 seconds).

The previous national record since 1982 belonged to Romas Sausaitis (7 min. 46.2 sec.). S. Bertašius’ personal record to date was 7 minutes 55.16 seconds.

This is already the 15th improved national record of Lithuanian track and field athletes this year.

We remind you that S. Bertašius also holds the Lithuanian records for the 1000 m (2 min. 19.72 sec.), 1500 m (3 min. 37.19 sec.), 1500 m indoors (3 min. 38.32 sec.) and 1 mile (3 min. 59.25 sec.).
