On Wednesday, August 5, the 21st World Junior Athletics Championships began in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Both Lithuanian representatives started on the very first day – Ieva Šadžiūtė and Martynas Kolupaila ran 100 m.
There were eight qualifying runs each. The race was awarded the right to continue in the semifinals: the three fastest runners from each race, along with three more runners with the best times.
I. Šadžiūtė finished sixth in the fifth race (11.83/0.0) and did not advance to the semifinals. Among 64 runners, her result was 45th. Results.
M. Kolupaila was also sixth in his run (10.64/-0.8) and finished the championship in 53rd place out of 70 participants. Results.
So far, four Lithuanian sprinters have competed in the 100 m races at the World Junior Championships: Agnė Visockaitė (1996), Lina Grinčikaitė (2004, 2006), Andrė Ožechauskaitė (2021, 2022), and Adas Dambrauskas (2024). The highest, sixth place, was taken in 2006 by L. Grinčikaitė.
