Ten Lithuanian track and field athletes will compete in the European U20 Championship

On August 7-10, the 28th European Junior (U20) Athletics Championships will take place in Tampere (Finland), with more than 1300 athletes from 48 countries participating. The championship will be held in Tampere for the second time, and ten athletes will appear in the Ratinan Stadium wearing the uniforms of the Lithuanian national team. They will start in nine different races.

Lithuania will be represented in the competition by Martynas Kolupaila (100 m), Eva Aušraitė (400 m), Matas Janarauskas (400 m), Aurėja Beniušytė (triple jump), Joana Fiodorovaitė (long jump), Kasparas Gustas (pole vault), Matas Mikulėnas (ball push), Arminas Ačas (discus throw), Orinta Navikaitė (javelin throw) and Augustė Virbalaitė (javelin throw).

In 2023, the European U20 Championship was held in Jerusalem (Israel). The silver medal was won by Rugilė Miklyčiūtė (pole vault), and Lukas Sutkus (400 m – 4th place), O. Navikaitė (javelin throw – 5th place), Adas Dambrauskas (100 m – 7th place) and Justė Perveneckaitė (10000 m sport walking – 10th place) entered the TOP10.

In total, Lithuanians have won two gold, four silver and one bronze medal in the history of these championships. By the way, in 2005 the European U20 Championship took place in Kaunas, at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium.
