At the start of the European U20 Championship, Lithuanian athletes reached the first finals

On Thursday, the European Junior (U20) Championships began in Tampere (Finland), in which ten Lithuanian athletes participate. On the first day of the competition, as many as nine of our competitors started – triple jumper Aurėja Beniušytė and javelin thrower Orinta Navikaitė made it to the finals of their competitions, while sprinter Matas Janarauskas won the right to start in the semi-finals.

In the javelin throw qualification, O. Navikaitė demonstrated the second result among all participants. The tool launched by the athlete flew 53.03 m (49.08-53.03), and this result immediately opened the door to the final, as the qualification norm (53.00 m) was met. Augustė Virbalaitė was only five centimeters short of the final, who threw the javelin 47.96 m (47.96-46.92-46.01) in the qualification. This result allowed the Lithuanian to take 13th place in the championship.

The triple jump qualification barrier was confidently overcome by A. Beniušytė, who jumped 12.92 m (12.92-12.84-12.85) in the best attempt. This is the seventh result among all participants and a ticket to the final, where 12 athletes will compete. In the 400 m qualification, M. Janarauskas shone, who set a season record (47.67 seconds), took second place in his run and reached the semi-finals.

Matas Mikulėnas, who started in the ball pushing qualification, took the 14th position in the championship. The athlete pushed the ball 17.33 m, and he was 30 centimeters short of the dreamed twelve. Kasparas Gustas, who took the 17th place (pole vault – 4.90 m), Arminas Ačas, who finished 20th (discus throw – 51.35 m), Eva Aušraitė (400 m – 55.64 seconds), and Martynas Kolupaila (100 m – 11.06 seconds), who finished 35th.

On Friday, M. Janarauskas will start in the semi-finals of the 400 m run (16:51), while A. Beniušytė will appear in the triple jump final (17:05). The championship is broadcast live on the Eurovision Sport portal.
