On Thursday in Zurich (Switzerland), in the final of the “Diamond League”, Mykolas Alekna performed excellently. The Lithuanian won the discus throw event, and the discus with the best attempt flew 68.89 m (68.29-x-68.89-x-x-67.25).
The second place in the competition was taken by the Slovenian Kristjan Čeh (67.18 m), the third place was taken by the Jamaican Roje Stona (67.06 m). The fourth result was demonstrated by the Australian Matthew Denny (66.62 m), who won two consecutive titles of the Diamond League, the fifth place was taken by the Swede Daniel Stahl (66.47 m), who triumphed in this competition in 2019 and 2021, and the sixth place was taken by the German Henrik Janssen (66.37 m).
World record holder M. Alekna participated in the final of the “Diamond League” for the second time. Last year, he managed to take second place in this competition. Already in September, the discus thrower is expected to start at the World Championships. The Planetary Championships will take place in Tokyo (Japan) from September 13 to 21, and the men’s discus throw final will be held on the last day of the championship.
In 2011, Virgilijus Alekna (discus throw) won the Diamond League, and in 2017 Andrius Gudžius (discus throw) became the champion.
On her award shelf, Alekna has Olympic silver, World Championship silver and bronze, as well as European Championship gold and bronze.
