The European Athletics Association European Athletics has announced a vote to elect the best athlete of the Old Continent in 2025. In the main category, discus thrower Mykolas Alekna, who will soon celebrate his 23rd birthday, was nominated. The Lithuanian won the rising star award in 2022.

This year, Mykolas Alekna improved the world record (75.56 m), became the world vice-champion, triumphed in the final of the “Diamond League” and won the gold medal in the Lithuanian championship.

The Golden Tracks awards ceremony will take place on October 25 in Batumi (Georgia). Voting is open until 6 October. The results of the vote will be determined by the public (25%), the federations of European countries (25%), the media (25%) and experts delegated by European Athletics (25%).

Also nominated in the category of the best European track and field athlete: Armand Duplantis, Mattia Furlani, Jimmy Gressier, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Isaac Nader, Leo Neugebauer, Pedro Pichardo, Sander Scottheim, Daniel Stahl.
