Sad news: on October 10, at the age of 87, veteran of sports walking Alexander MEDVIEDOV died.
Alexander Medviedov was born on December 26, 1938 in the Mogilev region of Belarus. In 1941, the family settled in Tauragė. He studied at Trukiškė and Tauragė secondary schools. He started playing sports in 1957 and trained independently according to the methodology of Emilis Zatopek. In 1958, he won the youth 10000 m distance (47:20.6) in the “Sporto” cup competition, and since then Juozas Šliažas has become his coach.
In 1960 he walked 20000 m in 1:31:39.0 on the path of the Šilutė stadium and became a master of sports. He became the Lithuanian champion in the 30 km distance in 1962 – 2:31:58.2 (Lithuanian record), the silver winner in 1961 – 2:41:50, the bronze medalist in 1959 – 2:52:17 and in 1963. 2:42:27. In 1960, he improved the Lithuanian 2-hour (24 km, 920 m) and 15000 m (1:05:14.0) athletic walking records in Šilutė. Three times he won the Sports Cup in the 20 km distance. In 1960-1965 he was a member of the Lithuanian national team.
After finishing sports, he began to actively referee, and in 1989-1993 he was the chairman of the Lithuanian Athletic Walking Technique Evaluation Commission.
He was awarded the Gratitude Medal of the Department of Physical Education and Sports “Gratitudo”, LLAF and LSĖA Thanksgiving.
