On the evening of January 16, happy news arrived from the USA – runner Gabija Galvydytė won the Thane Baker Invitational competition in Manhattan (Kansas) on the eve of her 26th birthday and improved the Lithuanian 1000 m short track record that existed for 38 years – 2 minutes 35.17 seconds. This is the best result of this winter season in the world and the 23rd in history. The previous Lithuanian record (2:35.5) since 1988 belonged to Laimutė Baikauskaitė. Gabija also holds the Lithuanian 800, 1500 m and mile short track records.
