The Lithuanian national team in the European Championship is growing

A little more than 2 months before the European Athletics Championships, it is already clear that at least 7 athletes have won the opportunity to represent Lithuania – that’s how many of them have fulfilled the norms of the championships. Discus throwers Mykolas and Martynas Aleknas, runner Gabija Galvydytė (who completed both the 800 and 1500 m distance norms), high jumper Juozas Baikščis and multi-athlete Beatričė Juškevičiūtė were joined by discus throwers Andrius Gudžius and Ieva Gumbs.

A. Gudžius on May 28 In the cup competition of the sports school “Startas” held in Kaunas, the best attempt was 65.50 m – this is what the championship standard is aiming for. For Andrius, this will be the seventh championship of the Old Continent in a row.

At that time, I. Gumbs on May 31. In the competition held in Ramona (USA), she threw the discus 61.45 m in her best attempt and solidly overtook the American Fenne Biljhouwer (45.58 m), who remained in second place. The norm of the European Championship is 61.00 m. For Ieva, this will be the fourth championship of the Old Continent.

The European Championship will take place on August 10-16 in Birmingham (UK). It is possible to enter it not only by meeting the norm, but also by ranking – this is how more Lithuanians usually get in. Qualification takes place until July 26. You can follow it here: Road to Birmingham
